At Genius Co-working, we believe businesses have the opportunity—and responsibility—to create positive impact beyond their own walls. If you are a charity or a purpose driven NFP we are here to support you. Whether that be through space, or our active coworking network full of resources. Please contact us on dogood@geniuscoworking.co.nz

Below are some of the NFP’s & charities we support annually.

  • Christchurch City Mission. Xmas toy collection for underprivileged children. From the 1st of December each year we erect our Genius gifting tree and reach out to our network and wider community to donate toys up until the 20th. Then we arrange delivery or collection.
  • Clothed in Love. Clothing collection for children during winter. All of June each year for 1 month we collect clothes for kids before winter really sets in, then arrange delivery to wonderful team at clothed in love.
  • Upstream Business supplier network that allows a % of revenue generated to be donated to youth charities. As a supplier to Upstream we donate 10% of any revenue generated though the network. We also prioritise using suppliers within the network. We recently changed our 4 year printing contract over to Heartland who recently joined Upstream.

Rather than treating charitable giving as an occasional donation, we aim to build community impact into the way we operate every day.

Our Approach

We support New Zealand charities through purposeful purchasing, community partnerships and by creating opportunities for people and businesses to thrive.

As a proud supporter of Upstream New Zealand, we choose suppliers who contribute a portion of their revenue to organisations supporting young people across Aotearoa. This means many of the everyday products and services we purchase help generate ongoing funding for youth mentoring, counselling and wellbeing programmes—without increasing costs to our members.

How We Create Impact

Our commitment includes:

  • Prioritising Upstream suppliers wherever practical.
  • Supporting local New Zealand businesses that demonstrate strong social and environmental responsibility.
  • Building partnerships that strengthen our local community.
  • Providing an inclusive, welcoming workplace where entrepreneurs, charities and community organisations can connect and grow.
  • Supporting local events, initiatives and organisations where our facilities, expertise or resources can make a meaningful difference.
  • More Than Financial Giving

We recognise that creating positive impact isn’t limited to monetary donations.

We regularly contribute through:

  • Discounted or complimentary meeting and event space for selected community organisations.
  • Professional advice and mentoring for startups and small businesses.
  • Community networking events that help local businesses collaborate and grow.
  • Introducing members to purpose-driven suppliers and organisations that share our values.
  • Continuous Improvement

As part of our commitment to becoming a Certified B Corporation, we continually review how our purchasing, partnerships and business decisions can generate greater social value.

We believe every business transaction is an opportunity to strengthen our community, support young people, and help build a more sustainable future.

We regularly review:

  • The proportion of suppliers that contribute to social impact initiatives.
  • Opportunities to increase procurement through purpose-driven suppliers.
  • Community partnerships established each year.
  • Time, resources and facilities contributed to community organisations.

Our Community Investment Programme:

Our Community Investment Programme provides a framework for supporting local charities, community organisations and initiatives through a combination of team volunteering, donations, sponsorship and practical support.

We encourage our team to get involved in community initiatives and look for opportunities where we can make a meaningful contribution, whether that is giving our time, providing resources, collecting essential items or supporting organisations doing important work in our community.

Our community investment activities include:

Employee volunteering with local charitable and community organisations.
Community collections and donations, including clothing, children’s gifts and other needed items.
Practical, hands-on support, including team participation in charitable activities.
Sponsorship and in-kind support for appropriate local organisations, events and community initiatives.
Providing space and resources to support local organisations and community activities where appropriate.
Our Community Investment in Action

Our team regularly looks for practical ways to support the community.

Recent initiatives have included volunteering to prepare meals for families staying at Ronald McDonald House, as well as collecting and delivering clothing and other donated items to local charitable organisations. We have also supported Christmas giving initiatives through donations of children’s toys and gifts.

These activities are part of our ongoing commitment to making a positive contribution beyond our everyday business operations. If you have an idea or an organisation that could do with our support please email dogood@geniuscoworking.co.nz and schedule a meeting with one of our team.

Looking Ahead:

We intend to continue developing our Community Investment Programme by identifying opportunities for our people and our business to support organisations making a positive difference locally.

Our aim is to build lasting community relationships and provide support that is practical, meaningful and responsive to community needs.
